Create Professional Subtitles on Mac
With Precision and Speed
Rougegorge is a powerful subtitling software designed for professionals who demand accuracy, efficiency, and a smooth native Mac experience. Whether you’re editing dialogue for a feature film, syncing captions for a corporate video, or localizing an online course, Rougegorge gives you everything you need in one focused tool.

Built for the way professionals work
Unlike generic caption editors, Rougegorge is built specifically for Mac — not a web app, not a cross-platform compromise. It runs natively on macOS, which means a responsive interface, tight system integration, and no performance bottlenecks even on long projects.
The subtitle editor is designed around precision: frame-accurate timecodes, real-time video preview, and full control over formatting and positioning. You edit, sync, and export without switching tools or losing time.

Who uses Rougegorge?
Rougegorge is trusted by freelance subtitlers, professional translators, and post-production teams working on demanding projects. If your work involves tight deadlines and exacting quality standards, this is the subtitling tool built for you.
Export to every format you need
Rougegorge supports a wide range of subtitle formats — SRT, TTML, XML DCP, and more — so your deliverables are always compatible with your client’s pipeline, whether that’s a streaming platform, a cinema package, or a corporate video system.

A subtitling workflow that stays out of your way
The best subtitling software is the one you stop thinking about. Rougegorge is designed to be fast to learn and deeply efficient to use. Keyboard-driven, precise, and built around your timeline — not around a subscription model or a bloated feature set.

The alternative to Annotation Edit
Rougegorge Subtitles is a lightweight macOS subtitling app built for filmmakers, producers, distributors, editors — and anyone who needs to handle subtitles without getting lost in menus or overpaying for software.
After 15+ years working on films, I noticed a gap: since the passing of Annotation Edit’s creator, there was no simple, reliable, and accessible alternative left, so…
I built one — with persistence, passion, and a little help from AI.
Rougegorge Subtitles is constantly evolving. Your feedback directly shapes future versions — don’t hesitate to share ideas and suggestions.
About me
I’m Robin Erard, a filmmaker and colorist based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. I studied directing and screenwriting at IAD in Belgium, and started out making short films before releasing my first feature, Fauves, in 2018.
Since then, I’ve kept moving between fiction and documentary, with projects like Ville cherche héros (2019) and Le syndrome d’Unspunnen (2023), both co-directed with Samuel Chalard.
In parallel, I created Rougegorge Postproduction, a studio dedicated to film color grading for cinema and television. Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked on more than a hundred films, always with the same goal: to respect the spirit of each work while giving it the best possible finish.
My path sits at the crossroads of filmmaking and postproduction, two worlds that inspire and feed into each other. Developing the Rougegorge Subtitles software is just a natural step in that journey.
